This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 84 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday. For updated information and sign up please click here.
Malaysia also join VOTE EARTH with a target of 5 million sign-ups. For latest information and sign up please click here
We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.
Once again, VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

Iran's supreme leader has dismissed overtures from the US president, saying Tehran does not see any change in US policy under Barack Obama's administration.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a speech on Saturday that there could be no change in US-Iran relations unless Obama puts an end to US hostility towards Iran and brings "real changes" in US foreign policy.
He made the remarks in a televised speech in the city of Mashhad to mark the Iranian New Year.

The US president has issued a videotaped appeal to Iran offering a "new beginning" in US-Iranian relations.
In the message timed for an Iranian holiday celebration on Friday, Barack Obama said: "My administration is now committed to diplomacy that addresses the full range of issues before us, and to pursuing constructive ties."
The White House distributed the videotape and posted it on its website to coincide with Iranian observance of the Nowruz festival, celebrating the arrival of spring.

On Wednesday, Zaid urged the Yang di-Pertuan Agong not to appoint Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the new prime minister.
Describing the statement as “very stupid”, Dr Mahathir said Zaid was a person who would party-hop.

Their statements were recorded in connection with the committee’s decision on Feb 18 to bar Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Zambry Abd Kadir and his six exco members from the assembly.
Four committee members -- DAP’s Ong Boon Piow (Tebing Tinggi), Loke Chee Yan (Kepayang) and Sum Cheok Leng (Bercham), and PKR’s Chan Ming Kai (Simpang Pulai) -- turned up at the Perak MACC. Many miracles were performed by the Prophet Muhammad by God’s permission. These miracles were witnessed by many people. For example: |
n When the unbelievers in Makkah asked the Prophet Muhammad to show them a miracle, he showed them the splitting of the moon.1
n Another miracle was the flowing of water through Muhammad’s fingers when his companions got thirsty and had no water except a little in a vessel. They came to him and told him that they had no water to make ablution nor to drink except for what was in the vessel. So, Muhammad put his hand in the vessel, and the water started gushing out between his fingers. So, they drank and made ablution. They were one thousand five hundred companions.2
There were also many other miracles that were performed by him or which happened to him.

At the end of this chapter, it may be appropriate to point out an important indication of the truth of Islam. It is well known that in the USA and the whole world, Islam is the fastest-growing religion. The following are some observations on this phenomenon:
n “Islam is the fastest-growing religion in America, a guide and pillar of stability for many of our people...” (Hillary Rodham Clinton, Los Angeles Times).1
n “Moslems are the world’s fastest-growing group...” (The Population Reference Bureau, USA Today).2
n “....Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the country.” (Geraldine Baum; Newsday Religion Writer, Newsday).3
n “Islam, the fastest-growing religion in the United States...” (Ari L. Goldman, New York Times).4
This phenomenon indicates that Islam is truly a religion from God. It is unreasonable to think that so many Americans and people from different countries have converted to Islam without careful consideration and deep contemplation before concluding that Islam is true. These converts have come from different countries, classes, races, and walks of life. They include scientists, professors, philosophers, journalists, politicians, actors, and athletes. (To read the stories of people who have converted to Islam, please visit the links at Stories of New Muslims.)
The points mentioned in this chapter constitute only some of the evidence supporting the belief that the Quran is the literal word of God, that Muhammad is truly a prophet sent by God, and that Islam is truly a religion from God.

Judge Abdul Amir Hassan al-Rubaie asked Zaidi during today's session "are you innocent?"
Zaidi immediately answered "yes, your honor, my reaction was natural, just like any Iraqi would have to done."
The court sentenced Zaidi for three years in jail for his assault on visiting President Bush.

Douglas Alexander, Britain's international development minister, has set out new proposals aimed at helping people in developing countries hit by the global credit crunch.
The measures include an international "rapid response" fund that would provide a safety net for the world's most vulnerable people.
Speaking on Monday at a UK-led conference in London investigating the impact of the financial downturn on the world's poor, the minister said that the number of men, women and children being forced to live on less than $1.25 was growing by millions every week.

The World Bank said on Monday that international financial institution resources would not be sufficient to meet their needs as more and more emerging and developing countries are hit.
"Should a more pessimistic outcome occur, unmet financing needs will be enormous," the World Bank said in a paper prepared for meetings of the G20 group of countries in London in April.
