'ONCE the toys of rich yuppies, mobile phones have evolved in a few short years to become tools of economic empowerment for the world’s poorest people...More than 4 billion handsets are now in use worldwide, three-quarters of them in the developing world. Even in Africa, four in ten people now have a mobile phone.'

'Across the developing world, corner shops are where people buy vouchers to top up their calling credit. Mobile-money services allow these small retailers to act rather like bank branches. They can take your cash, and (by sending a special kind of text message) credit it to your mobile-money account. You can then transfer money (again, via text message) to other registered users, who can withdraw it by visiting their own local corner shops. You can even send money to people who are not registered users; they receive a text message with a code that can be redeemed for cash.'

'By far the most successful example of mobile money is M-PESA, launched in 2007 by Safaricom of Kenya. It now has nearly 7m users—not bad for a country of 38m people, 18.3m of whom have mobile phones.'

THE BIGGEST CLAIM - THE BIGGEST MIRACLE

In the remaining days of this blessed month of Ramadan, I will post another two or more articles which depict the fact of Islam, Ramadan and Al Quran.

This time I excerpted an article entitled 'The Biggest Claim - the Biggest Miracle'. May it stimulate our mind to ponder the greatness and uniqueness of Al Quran which provides real guidance for us to live successfully in this world and hereafter.

THE BIGGEST CLAIM-THE BIGGEST MIRACLE

To say that the Quran is God’s word is a big assertion. We can even show two alternatives for those who deny that the Quran is the word God:

1) Either the Quran is the biggest truth. What can be more important than the words of the creator of all things?

2) Or the Quran is the biggest lie. (What can be a bigger lie than saying that it is from God? There is no bigger deception of attributing to Him since there can not be a greater entity than Him.)

No one can say that the Quran is an ordinary book. Even the disbelievers do not accept this. And all the miracles we saw all through this book takes place in the Book (the Quran) which has the biggest claim and the most extraordinary book. All the signs throughout the book present that the Quran’s claim is true; this book with the biggest claim is also the biggest miracle. A “lie” does not and can not fit in a book which is 100% correct on subjects so much different from each other. After the things we learned in this book, let us answer the questions we ask. (Some of the answers we gave for the Quran is also acceptable for the other books God sent by the other prophets.)

- Is there another book that places God into the center of life and gives the value He deserves?
- No.
- Is there another book on the earth with a bigger claim than this?
- No.
- Is there another book on the earth, explains the events that can not be known 1400 years ago and all its information true; from the depths of the space to under the seas, from the development in our mother’s womb to the end of the universe?
- No
- Is there any serious book which gives meaning to life, and says there is an after life and gives the mankind the hope he needs.
- No
- Is there another book which while achieving all these, has also a mathematical code system and keeps together the wholeness in its meaning and code?
- No
- Is there another book which confirms all the prophets throughout history, Noah, Moses and Jesus…, the prophets who brought common messages? A Book which approves all the prophets and their books, since it is the last book.
- No
- Is there really another reliable book which we can choose as a guide for ourselves?
- No
- Does the Quran have an alternative?
- No
- Do the disbelievers have an excuse?
- No

All the data show that the book which has the biggest claim is also the biggest miracle. The miracles of the Quran never end, everyday a new miracle is revealed:

88- Say, “If all the humans and the jinns came together in order to produce a The Quran like this, they would surely fail, no matter how much assistance they lent one another.”

THE WORLD'S LARGEST LAND ANIMAL

The male Savanna/ African Elephant

The Savanna Elephant, Loxodonta africana, commonly known as the African Elephant is the world's largest land animal.

The males of Savanna Elephants stand at 3.2 metres (10 ft) to 4 metres (13 ft) at the shoulder and weighing 3,500 kilograms (7,700 lb) up to a reported 12,000 kilograms (26,000 lb). The females are smaller, standing about 3 metres (9.8 ft) at the shoulder.

The elephants gestation period is 22 months, the longest of any land animal. At birth it is common for an elephant calf to weigh 120 kilograms (260 lb). They typically live for 50 to 70 years, but the oldest recorded elephant lived for 82 years

Range: South of Sahara

Most often, Savanna Elephants are found in open grasslands, marshes, and lakeshores. They range over much of the savanna zone south of the Sahara namely in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa. Migratory patterns are taught through generations.

CELLPHONES AND BRAIN TUMORS: 15 REASONS FOR CONCERN

A new report called “Cellphones and Brain Tumors: 15 Reasons for Concern, Science, Spin and the Truth Behind Interphone” was released on August 25, 2009 by EM Radiation Research Trust. It claims that previous studies on the topic were flawed.

This report, sent to government leaders and media, details eleven design flaws of the 13-country, Telecom-funded Interphone study.

It concludes:

• There is a risk of brain tumors from cellphone use

• Telecom funded studies underestimate the risk of brain tumors

• Children have larger risks than adults for brain tumors.

YOUTUBE MAY OFFER PAY MOVIES

New York Times has reported that 'YouTube, the largest video site, is in negotiations with major Hollywood studios for a deal that would let its visitors pay to watch full-length movies, according to two people briefed on the negotiations.'

'If an agreement is reached, it would be a major change for YouTube, which has built a huge audience by offering an eclectic collection of free video clips and earns most of its revenue from advertising. It would also put YouTube, which is owned by Google, in direct competition with services from Netflix, Amazon and Apple, which allow users to buy or rent movies online.'

'YouTube, which already offers some older movies on its site free, is talking with Lionsgate Entertainment, Sony and Warner Brothers about making newer ones available, said one person briefed on the talks, which were intended to be confidential.'

iPHONE WILL GET MMS ON 25th SEPTEMBER

Congrats to iPhone owners

'AT&T announced Thursday that the long-awaited multimedia messaging would arrive on Apple's device in the United States starting September 25. The iPhone 3GS and iPhone3G will support the service, but owners of the original iPhone will miss out since that handset lacks the proper radio.'

' In its brief statement, AT&T offered few reasons why it's taken so long to get such a basic cell phone feature.'

'The carrier also said it appreciates the patience of its customers.'

'SPIDERMAN' CLIMBED MALAYSIA TOWER

3rd tallest building in the world

BBC has reported that Alain Robert known as 'Spiderman' has climbed the Petronas Twin Tower, the third tallest building in the world, again on his third attempt.

It took Robert over two hours at early dawn to complete climbing of the 88 story building, using no safety equipment.
