DRIVING WHILE TEXTING INFOGRAPHIC

As mobile phones have become an everyday accessory (and practical necessity), their capabilities have gone beyond calling to allow for texting, emailing and internet surfing.

Have you ever sat at a stoplight and counted the number of drivers who are talking on the phone? Now imagine how many are taking their eyes off the road to text – and how many of them are inexperienced teen drivers.

 The statistics show that texting is more dangerous than talking on the phone and even drunk driving, as the infographic illustrates. Yet so many people text while driving and assume it isn’t as dangerous. 

Laws are coming up faster than a police cruiser in the rear view mirror to stop texting behind the wheel and it is a good thing; we can’t sit by idly while careless drivers continue to cause car accidents because they couldn’t put down their mobile phones.

 The incidence of driving while texting in Malaysia is more or less the same as that in the United States. The Malaysian Police should monitor closely and enforce the law in order to prevent unnecessary accidents due to the undisciplined drivers.

Congratulations to PIBG SMK Seafield, Subang Jaya, Selangor  for being awarded The Best PTA in The Secondary School Category by YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia in the National PTA Award ceremony which was held on 25 April 2012.

In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister reminded that parents, as stakeholders in education should continue to be involved in their children's schooling and follow current development in the country's education system.

"There is still room for improvement. We hope that PTA can assist, especially in preparing more comprehensive character-building programs for students. I hope PTAs, together with the schools, work to improve on the achievements of the schools and children."said DPM.

Dato' Seri Abd Ghafar Mahmud, Education Director General commended PTAs by saying, "PTAs were instrumental in creating a more cheerful learning environment in schools that was more conducive for learning, providing a channel for communication between the school and the community and helping to increase the school's financial sources."

THE WAY TO ACHIEVE HAPPINESS

It is the nature of every person to seek happiness. Some people strive to seek material happiness in this world away from religion, thinking that this is the true happiness. But this kind of happiness will be succeeded by pain and sorrow at the Day of Judgment, and its people will know that their striving led them only to misery and not happiness.

While others know that the true way to happiness is to obey God and follow His religion. For them the pleasures and riches of the world are of little consequence. When this happiness penetrates and fills the heart of the believer he does in fact live in this world as if he were in Paradise. Those are the people who find true happiness in this world.

What kind of happiness could be greater than that of someone who humbles himself to God, worships Him, strives for His pleasure, and strives to enter Paradise and have salvation from Hellfire?

The believer lives with such a sweetness in his heart that if the masters of the earth knew of it, they would fight him to death to take it from him. God has said:

Whoever does right, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will make him live a good life, and We will award them their reward for the best of what they used to do. (Quran, 16:97)

Happiness is in the good life mentioned in this verse, that even the rich disbelievers cannot find, despite the money they have. That is why we are not surprise when we know that many among them committed suicide.

To reach true happiness, we need to know what is the purpose of our life, how to reach success in the hereafter, and to fulfill the requirements of reaching this success by following the commands of God and His true religion.

We know much about Mars, Earth, moon, stars, and galaxies, thanks to the century of knowledge. But how much we know about our eternal life after death and how to reach success in the hereafter?

People need to eat every day to supply their bodies with energy and to keep themselves healthy. If they stop eating for a period of time, diseases will sneak up upon them and overtake them, and perhaps even kill them. Similarly, people also need food of another kind, food for the spirit and heart. It is unfortunate that while people are careful never to forget to feed their bodies, they do not show the same concern for the health of their souls and hearts. The heart needs food as the body does. The diseases of the body and the debilitating effects they have are not more dangerous than the diseases of the heart and soul.

EU SLASHES EUROZONE GROWTH FORCASTS

“The recovery in the EU has now

come to a standstill and there is the risk

of a new recession unless determined action is taken,”

said Commissioner Olli Rehn.

The European Union on Thursday has sharply downgraded the economic forecasts for the eurozone to just 0.5 percent growth in 2012, and warned that several countries may slip into recession in coming months.

Brussels had previously banked on 1.8 per cent growth for next year, but scaled back its expectation amid a resurgence of the eurozone debt crisis two years after it first started.

All 17 countries that use the euro saw their growth forecasts lowered for 2012. Those in the so-called core of the currency bloc were downgraded most severely:

• Germany from 1.9 per cent to 0.8 per cent,
• France from 2 per cent to 0.6 per cent and
• the Netherlands from 1.7 per cent to 0.5 per cent.

TURKEY EARTHQUAKE: BUILDINGS AND HOTELS COLLAPSED

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake has killed at least three people in eastern Turkey, and trapped many more under collapsed buildings.

About 20 buildings have collapsed, including a six-storey hotel in the city of Van, where dozens of aid workers and journalists were staying.

The quake hit at 21:23 (19:23 GMT) and was centred 16km south of Van.

The same region was struck last month by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake which killed more than 600 people.

For the infomation of non- Muslim, we briefly describe the Pilgrimage to Makkah (Hajj) which is one of the five Pillars of Islam.

The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework of the Muslim life. They are the testimony of faith, prayer, giving zakat (support of the needy), fasting during the month of Ramadan, and the pilgrimage to Makkah once in a lifetime for those who are able.

The Pilgrimage to Makkah

The annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to Makkah is an obligation once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able to perform it. About two million people go to Makkah each year from every corner of the globe. Although Makkah is always filled with visitors, the annual Hajj is performed in the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar. Male pilgrims wear special simple clothes which strip away distinctions of class and culture so that all stand equal before God.

The rites of the Hajj include circling the Kaaba seven times and going seven times between the hillocks of Safa and Marwa, as Hagar did during her search for water. Then the pilgrims stand together in Arafa and ask God for what they wish and for His forgiveness, in what is often thought of as a preview of the Day of Judgment.

The end of the Hajj is marked by a festival, Eid Al-Adha, which is celebrated with prayers. This, and Eid al-Fitr, a feast-day commemorating the end of Ramadan, are the two annual festivals of the Muslim calendar.

If yesterday's posting has shown the revolutionary effect of texting on humans lives all over the world, the inforgaphic below depicts how cell phones shape the lives of college students.

Conducted by Hack College over facebook, this survey revealed that majority of college students in the U.S. use smartphones. Not surprisingly, three-quarters of them do not foot their own bill. About 88% text during class, 40% use their phones for last-minutes test prep and a quarter have used their devices in mischievous ways.

Smartphones Represent 40% US Mobile Phones

Smartphones now representing 40 percent of all mobile phones in the U.S., according Nielsen, reports Giga OM

"Forty percent of mobile consumers over 18 in the U.S. now have smartphones, according to July 2011 data from Nielsen. Android is the most popular operating system, with 40 percent of mobile consumers reporting they have a smartphone with an Android OS. Apple’s iOS is in second place, with 28 percent."

For the information of nonmuslims,muslims celebrate 'Eid ul Fitr on the first day of Shawwal - the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, following the month of Ramadhan (in which the revelation started and ended 20+ years later, and which is also the month of fasting). Following a Lunar calendar, Muslims mark the beginning of the month with the sighting of the new crescent.

The month long fasting of Ramadan culminates into the festival of 'Eid-ul-Fitr (the Festival of Fast-Breaking). It is a festival of joy, family reunion and thanksgiving to Almighty God. The giving of a special charity for this occasion is obligatory. This is known as Zakat. Muslims dress in holiday attire, attend a special community prayer in the morning, and visit friends and relatives. Greetings of "'Eid mubarak," or "a blessed 'Eid" are exchanged.
